Free Donkey Care Course (Stage 1)
Our basic donkey care courses are held at the Sanctuary in Liscarroll and at venues around the country starting at 10am and finishing at 4pm. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity; learn the basics from the experts at The Donkey Sanctuary. The training courses are absolutely free, but voluntary donations are always gratefully received.
Education, Talks and Tours
We give talks and Power Point presentations to Schools, Institutions, Organisations, Day Care Centers, etc. in the Talks Barn, on The Donkey Sanctuary Operation here in Liscarroll, Mallow, Co. Cork. Donkey Day at Museum of Country Life
The National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar recently hosted The Donkey Sanctuary’s third Information Day.
This event included farrier, harnessing and driving demonstrations. Paddy Barrett, who started rescuing donkeys in the 1980s and giving them a lifelong home in Liscarroll, Co Cork gave a talk and presentation on the Sanctuary’s work. Sanctuary staff were on hand to answer questions and provide information to the interested public, while some of the donkeys currently cared for in Mayo foster homes and a few of their donkey friends were on display.
Announcing the winners of our Grand Christmas Raffle
We were delighted to have Fr. Stephen O’ Mahony P.P. with us on Wednesday 14th December to announce the winners of this year's raffle draw.

Visit by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine
The Donkey Sanctuary was honoured by the presence of Minister Simon Coveney from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Minister Coveney was accompanied by TV3 and reporter Paul Byrne who interviewed Noel Carton and Paddy Barrett.
Noel spoke on the Animal Welfare aspect regarding the cruelty of donkeys being rescued by the Sanctuary at present whilst Paddy mentioned the huge increase in the number of neglected donkeys in Ireland at present due to indiscriminate breeding.
Halloween Fun at The Donkey Sanctuary
Halloween gets off to an early start here at The Donkey Sanctuary on Thursday 27th October 2011.
Our Creepy Crawlies Hunt will start Thursday 27 October and run right through the midterm break until Sunday 6th November. Ten spooky Creepy Crawlies are hiding around the Sanctuary and we need help to find them, there will be a prize for each child who find all ten. This year we also have an added attraction 'The Haunted Stable'. Is anyone brave enough to enter?
