Catalana: A new member of our growing family

Catalana was collected from Escullar a little mountain village in Almeria. She was a very loved donkey and has been cared for very well by her previous owner but was relinquished to us as her owner was unable to care for her due to the owners health.

She had been used for light work, ridden in to the olive groves to bring firewood back. At 30 years of age the donkey was in great condition and showed her strength as we loaded her into the trailer, she was finally tempted in with some fresh hay! Her owner was very sad to see her go but she was sure that she was going to a good place for her retirement.

When Catalana reached the sanctuary she was greeted by the camera crew for TVE1 (which is like BBC1), they filmed her as she was unloaded from the trailer, so she is now a famous donkey!
