Foal dies through neglect!

On the same day as the festival in Villanueva de la Vera Antonio, a vet who works with us, discovered a foal that was in a terrible state. She was in an enclosure which was deep in mud and had a prolapsed anus that was very serious. We collected the foal as soon as we could and took her to Cáceres Veterinary Hospital where she was operated on. Antonio said that due to the amount of infection, she had probably been suffering from this terrible injury for up to four days, but that she looked like a strong little donkey and that there was chance that they could save her. The veterinary surgeons at Cáceres were working on her until 2am in the morning but unfortunately they had to let her go as her problems were so bad. They discovered that because there was no food in the enclosure the foal had been forced to eat mud and faeces and her stomach and colon were packed with it.
