Valentin is making new donkey friends

Lovely Valentin

Valentín, one of our latest rescued donkeys, is a fine example of how new technologies can help in many fields, including donkey welfare!

It was through the Internet that Antonio Moreno from CACMA (Andalusian Association Against Animal Cruelty) sent us a link to a video displaying a donkey in poor condition last January the 14th. The video showed the donkey had terrible hoof problems and was limping badly. The donkey was in the Town of Talayuela, near Cáceres. Since the video showed very clearly the animal's plight, it was decided urgent action was needed to save him from his suffering. Our association got in touch with Talayuela's Council to sort out the paperwork needed for us to be able to rescue the donkey. Sometimes bureaucracy gets in the way and we have to wait longer than we would wish to provide our help but finally on the 21st of January everything was ready to move him to Cáceres' Veterinary Hospital, where he would get the expert care from the vets until he was fit for the trip down to our Doña Rosa Farm, in Bodonal de la Sierra. As the donkey was nameless at the time of the rescue, the vets at the Hospital decided to call him Hemo, after a medicine they gave him upon arrival. After a few weeks in Hospital, he was ready for the journey to Bodonal, where he arrived on the 14th of February. Being such a lovely donkey, his new carers thought the name Hemo did not do him justice, and being Valentine's day the name choice was clear: he was renamed Valentín.

Valentín has just completed his isolation period, and is currently enjoying a new, happier and healthier life in a spacious paddock, where he is starting to make new friends. We are certain he will enjoy life as never before in his new surroundings. Doña Rosa is not open to the general public, however, you can arrange a visit by phoning 952 73 50 77.

To continue providing help for donkeys like Valentín, we need your support. Any donation, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated. Please continue helping us help them.
