Rancho Mestres - neglect case in Cataluña
Not long ago, we had a phone call from one of our supporters at The Donkey Sanctuary headquarters in the UK, telling us about the bad conditions some donkeys were facing at a ranch in Catalonia.
The place is called Rancho Mestres and we are pressing legal charges against them. Five donkeys were kept there without the care or proper facilities these animals need. Their hooves were in a terrible state (in fact one of the donkeys has needed prosthesis to be able to walk properly) and they were left without food for days. There is an animal that is actually in real danger still.
We launched an appeal in Catalonia to see if we could find homes for these beautiful animals, and we were very lucky indeed to find Toni and his family from a town called Santa Cristina D’Aro. They are temporarily homing all the donkeys and will eventually keep two of them at their beautiful Masía (typical Catalonian Country house) where they have built paddocks and stables for the donkeys. El Refugio del Burrito has paid for all the vet and farrier treatments, as well as the transportation of the donkeys to their new home.
We want to say a huge thank you to Toni and his family for all the hard work and dedication they have put into making these donkeys’ lives a lot better. We will be launching an appeal asking for a home for the remaining donkeys, and we are sure we will come across such good people as this family.
Thanks to all of you who help us, every day more, to give donkeys and mules in Spain the life they truly deserve.
