World Animal Day
On 4th October, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, World Animal Day celebrates the rights and wellness of all animals across the globe.
World Animal Day was established in 1925 by Heinrich Zimmermann. During the event’s infancy, it was only promoted by countries such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Czechoslovakia. However, in 1931, Heinrich managed to have a resolution adopted at the International Animal protection Congress in Florence, making October 4th celebrated worldwide as World Animal Day.
Nowadays World Animal Day is a global event sponsored by the charity Naturewatch Foundation since 2003.
This is why we launched this online event. On World Animal Day, we wanted to raise awareness by asking you to contribute to our cause in helping donkeys and mules in need.
For one week, we raised funds for the sanctuary through the online event "A week of solidarity for the Donkey Sanctuary". It was a real marathon! All the money raised, will be used, to finance our activities in favour of the welfare of donkeys and, mules in need.
In this time of environmental crisis, you can make a difference.
