Hiring: Farm Supervisor

We have an excellent opportunity for an organised, self-motivated and flexible individual to join our dedicated team at El Refugio del Burrito – a subsidiary of The Donkey Sanctuary, established in 2003 to improve conditions for donkeys and mules in Spain. As Farm Supervisor, you will assist with the day to day management and operation of the farm, including all aspects of management of land, staff, donkeys, mules, ponies and hinnies, deputising in the absence of the Farm Manager when required.
About you:
- A comprehensive working knowledge of equines.
- Previous experience of farming practice and experience of animal husbandry.
- Good communication skills.
- Able to make good decisions under pressure and deliver on deadlines.
- Competent IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Full valid driving licence.
- Previous supervisory experience (desirable).
About the role:
Your principal duties and responsibilities will include –
- Ensuring that the care and welfare of our donkeys is in line with Donkey Sanctuary policies and practices, managing the team to ensure that routine care and standards are maintained and are consistently excellent.
- Providing advice, instruction and induction training to Farm staff and ongoing training, as required.
- Ensuring that farm supplies for donkey care are always available and of good quality.
- Supporting the Farm Manager to recruit, performance manage, develop and support the Farm team, setting objectives, coaching and developing the team to fulfil their potential.
- Accurately recording and maintaining staff working hours and additional hours, which includes the management of annual leave and absence requests, overtime and sickness.
- Acting as a point of contact for Quality Time Volunteers and Work Experience students, supervising their roles based on the farm and supporting them with any work related training suitable for the role.
- Acting as a point of contact on the farm for all external visitors, which includes vets, farriers, equine dentists, suppliers and ex-owners.
