We have a superb opportunity for a self-motivated and flexible professional to join our management team at El Refugio del Burrito – a subsidiary of The Donkey Sanctuary, established in 2003 to improve conditions for donkeys and mules in Spain. With outstanding team management and written and verbal English communication skills, you will be responsible for all aspects of financial management and reporting of the Charity in Spain, including management accounting, budgeting and forecasting, and will provide leadership to the Finance and Administration team to effectively achieve agreed departmental goals and objectives.
A fully qualified and active member of a recognised professional accounting institute, your principal duties and responsibilities within this multifunctional and rewarding role will include –
- Working closely with the Finance, Governance and Compliance & Admin teams (in country, regional and UK) to ensure consistently high standards of service, record keeping and governance are maintained.
- Leading, managing, and supporting the HR and Finance administrator in setting SMART objectives for the wider team, managing performance including timely performance reviews – ensuring team understand their contribution to the Charity’s strategic objectives and their own roles and responsibilities.
- Supporting the HR and Finance administrator and the UK People Team in dealing with issues related to human resources of the charity.
- Presenting accurate and timely financial and management information to the Regional Director of Europe, ERB Country Manager, the UK Finance Accounts team and the UK Director of Finance.
- Effectively communicating at all levels within the Charity providing practical solutions, advice and guidance on accounting, finance and taxation issues advising best practice, providing training and guidance, ensuring compliance with legislation and continually striving to achieve best value for money.
- Managing and providing advice on all aspects of taxation, taking advice from the Charity’s tax advisers where necessary, including overseeing the preparation of tax returns as appropriate, ensuring returns are filed in accordance with current regulation in Spain.
- Liaising closely with the Country Manager (and deputising for the Country Manager where necessary) to ensure that the agreed objectives are achieved in line with agreed strategic aims.
Proven experience in financial management and reporting of a small to medium international organisation (including budgeting, forecasting and treasury management), together with extensive post-qualification experience in a senior financial accounting and management role, is essential, as are advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications and procurement and HR procedures, and demonstrable team management, coaching, prioritising and communication skills. Experience of working within the finance function of a small/medium international charity/Not for Profit organisation and knowledge of charity specific income and corporation tax regulations is desirable.
